Choose System Preferences from the drop down menu. From your Mac menu bar, select the Apple logo at the top left corner. Ensure the external display (or both, if you’re able to use two displays) is active and on. Plug your external display into your MacBook. You’ll see two preferences windows when you do this, one for your MacBook screen, and one for your monitor. Plug in your external display to a power source.
